Community Residencies
At YPC, we know from experience that theatre can be used to teach every academic and social skill! Over two decades, YPC has worked with educators, youth development professionals and artists to create exciting and effective school-based programming. We offer programs for all ages and grades.
What Is A Residency?
In a residency experience, a YPC teaching artist comes to your classroom or group to lead a theatre-driven curriculum over a pre-arranged amount of time. Residencies can address a range of topics and tones, from fairy-tale frivolity to powerful drama.
Residencies engage students in ways not traditional to the classroom. Incorporate technology like video production and visual design. Interact with historical figures. Safely express imaginative ideas. Coordinate different learning stimuli: music, spectacle and more.
YPC is known for its empowering approach and its unprecedented respect for the voices of young artists. Our community residency and outreach program introduces students to the aspects of theatre that are tools used for a lifetime: understanding, empathy, communication, and curiousity.
By engaging in live art experiences, kids increase their chances of academic success, consistent school attendance, holding class office, participating in math and science fairs, writing original poems and essays, reading for pleasure and even performing community service. (Go, art!)
